Illinois Expands Record Expungement (Effective January 2025) Update

Published on September 29th, 2025

What Changed:
As of January 2025, Illinois has a new law that makes it easier for people with certain low-level, non-violent felony convictions to clear their record. If you’ve finished all parts of your sentence and stayed out of trouble for a set number of years, you may now qualify to have your record sealed.

Why This Matters to You:
Having a criminal record can make it harder to get a job, rent an apartment, go back to school, or even apply for financial aid. This new law opens the door for thousands of Illinois residents to finally move forward without the shadow of a past conviction.

How We Can Help:
The process isn’t automatic — you need to file the right paperwork and show strong supporting documents. That’s where we come in. Our team reviews your situation, explains your options, and prepares a strong petition to give you the best chance of success.
